So, the coconut cream pie is also well-regarded at Clanton’s. Part of this journey is my resolution is to try even things I don’t expect to like; the theory is that if I don’t like, for instance, coconut pie, perhaps that’s only because I’ve never had genuinely good coconut pie. Well, I’m not much of a pie eater at all, really, and coconut is one of those things I’ve just never developed a taste for. But I gave this one a shot. I don’t know that I feel qualified to speak on it as it didn’t change my mind. I didn’t like it. It wasn’t horrible or anything; I just don’t like coconut and this is a pie based around coconut. It’s quite large, I will tell you that. The piece is very fluffy and high, I mean. It comes with a more than generous helping of shaved (or grated or whatever) coconut on top and also generously mixed into the cream itself. There wasn’t a bite that didn’t have several pieces of coconut in it. If you’re into coconut, you might like this. Speaking for myself, I didn’t like it. Strongly recommended against. 1 ½ stars.
Next time, one last meal before we leave Clanton’s Café behind, and after a couple of negative reviews, I’m happy to say that we’ll leave the restaurant on a high note: the meal I’ll be talking about next time is the best one I had at Clanton’s.
