Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend
Studio: Alison Rosen
What Is It
Comedian-writer Alison Rosen discusses her life and talks to interesting people.
Two episodes a week drop. Shows run over an hour, often over ninety minutes. Thursday shows are more free-wheeling and feature a recurring cast of friends. Tuesday shows typically feature longer, more focused interviews. The iTunes page goes back to 2015. Hit up the official archive to go all the way back to the very beginning in 2012.
What About It
So, if you’re into podcasts, you were probably introduced to Alison Rosen as the “news girl” on Adam Carolla’s show. While still on Carolla’s show, she launched this podcast on Carolla’s network. Even if you never listened to Carolla’s show, the podcast drama surrounding her firing might have reached you. Carolla fired her via e-mail, didn’t give her a chance to say goodbye on the actual show and announced the firing when he unceremoniously introduced Rosen’s replacement by kind of off-handedly saying that Alison wouldn’t be back and here’s the new “news girl.” I never listened to Carolla very much, so I didn’t really have a dog in the fight, but if I had to pick I’d have picked Rosen’s side as she’s not as obnoxious. Regardless, her podcast is no longer on the Carolla network, but it’s continued. I like Rosen’s personality a lot and I particularly like the more free-wheeling shows she does with a group of friends. The interview shows I find far less interesting. She’s not a particularly good interview in my opinion and those episodes almost always seem too long. I appreciate her wanting to give the listener their money’s worth, but, at the same time, some people just don’t have an hour-and-forty-five minutes of things to say. The friend-group shows have energy and fun. Still, it’s not an essential listen, but she’s fun.
2 ½ stars.
Alison Rosen really is your new best friend.
