Every Breath You Take: The Classics (1995) - The Police
A great compilation. Has a lot of the great songs here, but, of course, not all of them. I mean, it’s only an hour long; there’s plenty of room for Synchronicity II, you know what I mean? But the remaster is absolutely flawless and it helped me rediscover a few I'd let slide somehow. How could I have possibly forgotten De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, I wonder? What a great song. But then they’re all great, really. Loads of fun. This music holds up.
Lennon Legend: The Very Best of John Lennon (1997) - John Lennon
Fantastic career overview; no one disc can give a fair perspective on Lennon's solo career, if you believe what you hear, but this one does about the best job one disc could be expected to do. Of the twenty songs on here, only Borrowed Time and Give Peace a Chance (that’s right, I said it!) aren’t that great. The other eighteen are pure quality.
A Wonderful Time of the Year (1994) – Dino
Piano based Christmas album; veers, as most Dino albums do, from heartfelt sincerity to vaudevillian kitsch, sometimes in the very same medley. The Carribean tinged Go Tell It On the Mountain wins though.
Black Hawk Down - Hans Zimmer
Amazing score. Zimmer claimed he wanted to create something totally new and he’s done it. Eastern music meets western rock to create a powerful work of music for the ages, a brilliant collision of every kind of music imaginable into a mishmash of pure adrenaline and grief. High octane and heartbreakingly devestated by turns. Easily one of Zimmer’s five or so best scores.
