If you think this film still needs a defense, please leave the internet. But, yeah, I caught the thirtieth anniversary re-release. It’s only been a couple of years since I saw it, but it’s just perpetually delighting. Like I say, there’s really nothing new to say about the film, which is rightly a beloved classic. The film veers wonderfully from genuinely creepy scenes (those chair arms you guys those chair arms!) and riotously funny scenes (the hilarious climax). The entire cast is pitch perfect; special praise has to go to Moranis and Murray, particularly Murray. His deadpan, incredibly subtle comic performance is one of his absolute best. Watch his face when Ray tells him how much the car cost; it’s one of the funniest small reactions in cinema history. And it’s unbelievably quotable: “Don’t cross the streams.” “I’ve seen **** that would turn you white.” “Yes, it’s true, this man has no ****.” “Go get her, Ray!” “That would have worked if you hadn’t stopped me.” “Are you the Keymaster?” “When someone asks if you’re a god, you say YES!” “Are you, Alice, menstruating right now?” I mean, it’s a perfect, delightful romp. It remains a crowd-pleaser. Great movie. Highly recommended. 4 stars.
tl;dr – it’s Ghostbusters, one of the most entertaining movies in history. You’ve seen it; go see it again. 4 stars.
