What It Is
Every week a couple of guys talk about issues surrounding faith in the news and make copious jokes at the expense of religious folks.
Technical Details
The show runs sixty to seventy minutes with a new episode every week. iTunes has the entire archive of over two-hundred & fifty shows.
What About It
This is a show best consumed in low doses. It isn’t that I’m not an atheist; I’m a big fan of Ardent Atheist, a great atheist podcast. And there’s certainly plenty of great news about stupid religious folks to laugh at. Unfortunately, the hosts do more laughing than I do. These guys are funny, occasionally in a genuinely clever way. But they tend to cackle insanely at even the smallest witticism. Okay, I laugh at my own jokes; but no one has ever laughed as loudly and as long(ly?) at their own jokes as these guys. I mean, I’ve found shows before where the subject matter wasn’t right up my alley, but I listened because of the personalities of the hosts. This is the exact opposite really; I love a good comedy news show, but these guys are pretty obnoxious. Too much show for this to get into my rotation. Though they do read something called the Skeptic’s Creed at the end of every episode and I really like that.
2 ½ stars.
Essential If
How am I going to know when to laugh if the comedians don’t do it for me?
Avoid Like the Plague If
A mash-up of Hooked On a Feeling with recordings of people speaking in tongues is going to offend you.
Best Entry Point
I found the episodes to be pretty consistent; wouldn’t necessarily pick one to elevate above the others. It’s kind of a news show, so just get the latest one.
