What It Is
Randy & Jay Sklar, twin comedians, talk about sports, weird news stories and the art of comedy with guests from the world of entertainment.
Technical Details
A new episode drops every four days or so. There are two different types of episodes. The first is Sklarbro Country, which has a lot of sports related comedy, as well as some more serious talk about sports; the second is Sklarbro County, in which the brothers attempt to keep the sports talk to a minimum for their non-sports-loving fans. The show has an explicit tag and there are occasionally profanities thrown around, but this is, for an explicit tagged show, pretty tame in that regard. The iTunes archive has the three-hundred most recent episodes. For the rest of the archive, hit up the show’s website.
What About It
I find this show interesting for a few reasons. The dynamic between the Sklar brothers is the main one; I’m not aware of any other twin comedians and these guys even perform stand-up together, which is insane to me. So, they have a very interesting and unique rapport. I also kind of dig the sports angle to their comedy. I listen to a lot of comedy and sports-focused comedy is surprisingly rare it seems to me. Unfortunately, these things aren’t really enough to make this podcast particularly great. The show isn’t all that funny to me, for whatever reason and the interviews with the guests never really get beyond the superficial. And then there’s a recurring bit where some comedian or other calls in and impersonates a famous celebrity from sports or journalism or whatever. The most common guest is “Bryant Gumbel” and, man oh man, is that whole bit just painfully unfunny. And it seems to close almost every episode of Sklarbro Country, so that’s a big, big negative for me. On the whole, this isn’t one I listen to at all anymore.

Best Entry Point
Hard to say. Of the episodes I listened to, nothing really stood out as way better or way worse than the others. Seems to just consistently be middle of the road. I’d recommend just checking out the iTunes archive. If you’re into sports, download the latest Sklarbro Country; if you’re not, download the latest Sklarbro County. And, yes, I know it’s confusing.
2 ½ stars.
Next time, it’s our first Christian podcast! And, unfortunately, it’s pretty dull.
