This one’s a real winner; Gregg Henry, who’s been so wonderful up to now as slimy oil executive Hollis Doyle, gets to really shine in this one and show us a surprising human side. Andrea Bowen does a great job in her guest role as Doyle’s daughter; their final scene together is a real tour de force. One of the better moments here though is between Bellamy Young & Tony Goldwyn. They’ve had some killer diller scenes together, but this one tops it all; It’s essentially a lengthy monologue from Young and she does it perfectly, but Goldwyn’s silent reaction, as he goes through a litany of realizations and emotions without saying a word, is easily his finest acting yet on the show. Kudos, guys. Highly recommended. 4 stars.
tl;dr – a plot that gives depth to a minor character, allows a guest actress to show off and leads to a gangbusters climax; this is Scandal all the way. 4 stars.
