Buy Scandal: Boom Goes the Dynamite
I really loathe cutesy titles like this; and the episode is only called that because at one point a character says the phrase. A better title would be Stolen Moments or something because that’s really the theme of this episode in a lot of ways. But anyway, this episode has two really compelling plot threads. One follows Quinn & Huck on an investigation and Guillermo Diaz just once again absolutely kills it; he’s never afraid to take Huck to seriously dark places and there’s a great scene here for him. And Kerry Washington really steps up in her plotline; she and the team have taken on the job of finding a wife for an inveterate bachelor planning to run for a big political office. This plot goes to some surprisingly emotional places and the show is back on point with these “case of the week” stories in that this story ties in some nice symbolic ways to Olivia’s situation and Washington gets one of her strongest moments yet with a closing monologue about how stolen moments don’t add up to anything in the long run. It’s a really beautiful and genuinely emotionally powerful moment. I feel like the show’s definitely back on point after a bit of a hiccup last episode. The mole stuff is still dull though. Highly recommended. 4 stars.
tl;dr – with strong acting moments for Washington & Diaz and two compelling plot threads, the show gets back on point with a great episode. 4 stars.
