Big fan of what I’ve read of Cather’s work prior to this, so I decided to make her my next deep dive by doing a chronological read-through, courtesy of the Library of America. This is her first book, a slim volume of poems, not even a hundred pages. It’s pretty forgettable stuff. I think this is the only poetry she published during her career, so obviously she took to her own prose more than her own poetry, which puts the two of us in agreements. Quick, easy read of pretty simple poetry. But nothing of any real interest. 1 ½ stars.
tl;dr – small volume of forgettable poetry is an inauspicious beginning for literary icon Cather, but things do get better from here. 1 ½ stars.
