Home Theater Geeks (MP3)

What It Is
Host Scott Wilkinson discusses technology related to home media viewing.
Technical Details
This show wrapped production in September of this year. The iTunes archive is scanty, containing only the most recent ten episodes. The entire archive is still available on the TWiT homepage and that’s a whopping three-hundred & seventy-three episodes! Episodes tend to run around an hour. You can also check out the show in its original video format there as well.
What About It
This show is right in line with the TWiT brand. It’s too technical for the layman to completely follow; features people with genuine expertise, not just talking points; has little flash, but a lot of substance. As with most TWiT shows, I found this one pretty dry, substantially dryer than the average actually. Wilkinson and his guests are all knowledgeable, but have little in the way of charisma; some of the other TWiT shows do have charismatic, high energy hosts, but not this one. The tech-talk was often over my head and I question the real applicability of a show like this; almost four hundred hours of discussion that revolve around getting the best out of your home theater system. I mean, I’ll take a hair less than ideal if it’s going to take this long. Still, if you’re into this, you’re into it and if you’re into it, this is the show for you. As for the rest of us, we’ll continue to view the home theater system as a means to an end, not an end unto itself. But, hey, more power to you. It’s the magic of podcasting.
