Little advice from a married man: you should probably get yourself out there, sweetie. You’re just tipping your prime.
Fleabag keeps up the quality level with this wonderful third episode. This episode revolves around the “surprise” birthday party for her sister Claire and the various questions that grow out of that issue: what should Claire’s reprehensible husband, Martin, get for her? Now that Harry’s out of the picture, who should Fleabag take as a date? Etc. Brett Gelman, a cringe comic I’ve loved for years, gets the spotlight quite a bit as Martin and his scenes with Waller-Jones are the best in this episode, alternating hilarity with awkwardness as only the best British comedy can. Waller-Jones gets a great short dramatic beat in a thrift store and she nails it. And I think I said that I wasn’t sure about Sian Clifford as Claire in an earlier review; well, I’m on board, she’s wonderful. This show just continues to impress; sharp character work, great performances & a heady mix of hilarious comedy and dark drama. 4 stars.
tl;dr – the quality hasn’t dropped yet; stellar supporting performances from Brett Gelman & Sian Clifford elevate this episode, which wonderfully mixes comedy and heartache. 4 stars.
