Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot & Marple: ABC Satsujin Jiken (Sono Yon) Powaro, Nazo o Toku

Okay, so I think I can call this series’ first adaptation of a Christie novel a success.  Yes, it’s still an anime and I think the clues are signposted a little more obviously than they are in the novel, though I’ll admit that might be because I already knew the solution going in.  The big twist isn’t handled quite as well here as it is in the novel because it’s just foreshadowed a bit more whereas in the novel, it kind of comes out of nowhere.  Part of the solution hinges on one character being a mentally ill and emotionally troubled and I liked that the show very explicitly said that this was due to his experiences in the First World War.  I don’t think the novel made that connection, though I could be wrong.  Still, it’s nice that the show raises an issue like PTSD even in a somewhat passing way and the show really does make you feel empathy for that character.  Anyway, I think the show did a better job with this novel adaptation than it has to date with the short story adaptations.  Overall solid.  3 stars.

tl;dr – anime series wraps up its first multipart novel adaptation with a solid fourth episode; the show gets the novel adaptation better than the short story adaptation, at least so far.  3 stars.
