So, I saw the live Rifftrax version of this film (for those of you who also saw it, this is an indicator of just how far behind I am on posting my reviews). The film itself has long been one of my “so bad it’s great” movies. The addition of the Rifftrax guys amped it up even farther. But the film’s pleasures are just astounding. Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo , Jonathan Hyde AND Kari Wuher (who I kept calling Dina Meyer)! In ONE MOVIE! Voight in particular is just a non-stop laugh riot; it’s one of the most delightfully unhinged performances of all time. And, oh, that snake; that hilarious, awful CGI snake. Lord, that waterfall scene. One expects the physics to be a little off in movies like this, but that snake might just as well have gone through a black hole in that scene. Anyway, these performances are all really cheesy and great. And I’m not going to lie to you; I’ll admit it – Jennifer Lopez is smokin’ in this movie. Though that hilariously inappropriate scene of her flirting with Jon Voight will kill your sex drive for at least a few minutes. Rifftrax is always a welcome addition, but this one is a must see even without that added bonus. Highly recommended. 4 stars.
tl;dr – they don’t come any funnier or cheesier than this star-studded, massively entertaining giant snake movie; Jon Voight alone is worth the price of admission. 4 stars.
