Earlier this season, after we got a hint of our overarching plot, we had a scene that found one character bringing another character up short with the word “defiance.” Second character had an epic freakout and pulled the whole, “never say that word in my presence again” routine. So when I saw that this episode was called Defiance, I got very excited. And this episode lived up to my expectations. Again, as I’m recommending this show as one you should watch, I’ll say basically nothing here. But this episode was a monster as far as emotional roller coasters go – the twists come thick and fast and all praise to Dan Bucatinsky, who has been kind of annoying really to this point, who anchors the episode with an intense performance. But this one is just a killer, very tense and suspenseful and with a bang-up cliffhanger. I’ll say it again: shows this good are still on the main networks? Yes, they are. If you’ve gotten this far in the series and still aren’t hooked, this is the one that’ll do it. Highly recommended. 4 stars.
tl;dr – episode promises big twists, big reveals and intense action; it then delivers. If you’re not hooked yet, this one’ll do it. 4 stars.
