The game is well-afoot, to steal from another famous detective, in the second part of The ABC Murders anime edition. B is the name of the place, B is the name of the person and Poirot and company arrive too late to save poor young Betty Barnard of Bedfordingtonshire (not the actual name of the village). The most striking thing about this episode is the way it lingers over a fairly lengthy scene of Poirot, Hastings & Mabel (and in occasional adorable cutaways, Oliver) talking to Betty’s sister and her fiancé. The show takes the time to really let the sadness of Betty’s death sink in, which I found surprising. But once again, Poirot and company are a step behind the killer at Churston and wealthy Sir Carmichael Clarke is the next victim! 3 stars.
tl;dr – surprisingly somber for a kid’s show, this episode spends a lot of time with the sad relatives of the murder victims, but still keeps the pace going quickly. 3 stars.
