So, I’m doing my review of the Scream franchise and this feature length documentary, right at 90 minutes, was included as a bonus feature on one of the Blu-Rays I watched. It counts, I think, as a TV movie since it was originally aired on A&E Network back in 2011. It is, of course, a behind the scenes documentary about the first Scream movie and it’s pretty average for one of these documentaries. Having a full ninety minutes means that they talk to EVERYbody that was involved in this thing and there are plenty of fun stories with the cast and crew. It’s basically a talking-head documentary and it does feel very basic cable TV in terms of its production values. It also fades to black for a commercial break about every fifteen minutes, but, you know, whatever. If you’re wondering why 2011 was considered a good time to dedicate a full ninety minutes to talking about the original Scream, well, I have an answer 4 you. 2 stars.
tl;dr – behind the scenes documentary is a basic cable production and it shows, but its length means it includes just about everybody and there are fun stories certainly. 2 stars.
